Buncombe County health inspectors have found something that needs attention at the Asheville School pool and will not permit swimming until they get back out there to look at it again on Monday afternoon, at the earliest. NO SWIMMING FRIDAY, SUNDAY or MONDAY this weekend.
If you are swimming the Lure of the Lake open water event this Saturday, June 10 please give yourself plenty of time to arrive, check in, change / stretch and hopefully warm up before the race begins. Have a great time!
Here are several open water swimming tips that will help you have a fantastic experience:
1. Breathing is great, do it as often as you’d like! I like every stroke, and I vary sides about 10 breaths each side with a quick sighting between sides!
2. Relax legs from your very first stroke. Never overuse them-unless you’re racing for cash or pride the last 200 yards of an event! Let them float gently with a 2 to 4-beat balance kick the whole way. This is key in staying comfortable your entire race.
3. Thank the water you’re passing through and floating in and send out gratitudes to all the creatures around you, and start naming your gratitudes in your life and you will be buoyed beyond the entire time with a feeling of elation. I’m not kidding. Try it.
4. If for some reason you find yourself out of breath, flip over on your back and swim easy backstroke with your ears under, chin up looking at sky, as you calm yourself and prepare to flip back over and finish in total control and total comfort.
5. Expect to have a great experience and name all the beauty around you-it’s a spectacular setting – soak it up!
6. Thank all the race organizers and volunteers the entire morning!
I’m sorry to be missing this, but I expect to hear great stories and see some fun pictures, please take a group photo!
If you can open this, here’s a great example of Karlyn Pipes sighting then rewarding herself with a breath after each sighting:
