Movie- “Young Woman and the Sea”

The Regal Biltmore Grand movie theater at Biltmore Park will be showing this movie beginning today, 3:15pm if you want to check it out!

What is it? It’s “the story of competitive swimmer Gertrude Ederle, who, in 1926, was the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. She contracted with two newspapers and sold her story, thereby financing her quest. There was actually a race among women who would be first to cross as only five men had done so before.”

Playing the lead, Daisy Ridley says she had zero swimming experience before this role-That’s a huge task! Let us know if her strokes pass the swimmer’s test!

Fandango for tickets!

  1. I love this! I have a book about her and two other women trying to be the first to cross. There was a swim in NYC that is called the Ederle Swim. It is retracing her swim in NYC 1925 from the Battery to Sandy Hook NJ. I kayaked as support staff for my friend. I think it ended in 2014.
