Lane 6 regulars dominated their Age Groups with Open Water Wins at Bussell Island!

Misty Varnell, Adrienne Kramer, and Jeff Bush each won their age group during the annual Bussell Island swims near the Tellico Dam in Eastern Tennessee!
Serious weather prior to event and a steady rain during the race made for surprisingly calm water. Adrienne Kramer during the event seen below.

Adrienne swam the 1 miler butterfly and was 11th overall while winning her age group in that distance.

The Knoxville Open Water Swimmers (KOWS!) group hosted this fine event and this description is from their website directly: “The Bussell Island Swim hosts 3 different distances: 1-mile, 1.6-mile and 3.3-mile. The swims are current-neutral, with the 1-mile course fully visible from a paved greenway atop the earthen Tellico dam. The 1.6-mile loop takes our swimmers from the 1-mile course on an adventure around a small tree-covered island further out into quiet Tellico Lake.“
The next morning Misty and Adrienne tackled the somewhere in the 14 — 16 mile range for the PBR SwimRun Knox on challenging and fun terrain, including plenty of muddy trails and swimming in beautiful quarries and rivers!

Misty Varnell says “We enjoyed it. It had its challenges but we didn’t get lost! We weren’t sure at one point when we came across a tree freshly down across the trail with no course markers, but we made it back! The river entry was steep and muddy, and then a lot of limbs to navigate before we could actually swim. One of the runs had sticky “peanut butter” mud for about half a mile that made it hard to run. The water felt nice and we had a lot of shade on most of the trails. We finished in 4:13, and other than being sore, we felt pretty good overall. Very glad to be done, but we stayed consistent and weren’t running on E at the end!”
