First, some sad news…read today and confirmed reason with long time local coaching friend that Sam Hartshorn, 28, passed away last Friday at home due to a prescription pain medication overdose.
Sam occasionally swam with us and was always a studly and graceful swimmer and a very sweet young man. If my memory serves correctly he was runner-up in the 100 yard Backstroke at D-II NCAA’s with an :48 sec effort. He swam at Mars Hill. His obit is in today’s Asheville-Citizen Times, and is copied here:Memorial services on September 16th at 2pm at Jubilee Community Church downtown Asheville.

Last Saturday while we hosted our swim meet in Asheville, one of our newest residents, Marty Moran (below, on right), was swimming in Chicago at the annual Big Shoulders Open Water 5K in Lake Michigan.
Water temp was reportedly 64F and Marty swam very well placing 5th in the wetsuit division coming in at 1:07:30. See website and full results here. Well done, Marty!
Here are the last three coached workouts, including the final session from Alexandra before she departs for travels and grad school. Thank you, Alexandra!
